Epithalon

How It Works

Epithalon is proposed to activate telomerase through upregulation of the hTERT (human telomerase reverse transcriptase) gene, which encodes the catalytic subunit of telomerase. Telomerase adds TTAGGG nucleotide repeats to the 3' ends of telomeres, counteracting the progressive shortening that occurs during DNA replication. Additionally, Epithalon may influence pineal gland function, supporting melatonin production and circadian rhythm regulation. It has also been reported to modulate antioxidant enzyme expression and reduce lipid peroxidation.

Key Benefits

Potential telomerase activation for telomere length maintenance
Support for healthy aging at the cellular level
Possible improvement in sleep quality through pineal gland support
Antioxidant enzyme modulation
Immune function support through thymic peptide pathways
Studied for potential neuroendocrine regulation

Clinical Research

Research by Khavinson et al. published in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine reported that Epithalon activated telomerase in human somatic cells and increased telomere length. A study of 266 elderly subjects over 6 years showed that those receiving epithalamin had a 1.6-fold lower mortality rate compared to controls. Research in Mechanisms of Ageing and Development demonstrated increased telomerase activity in human fetal fibroblast cultures treated with Epithalon. Note: Much of the existing research originates from Russian institutions, and larger Western clinical trials are needed to confirm these findings.

Dosage & Administration

Dosage

Typical protocol: 5-10mg administered daily via subcutaneous injection for 10-20 consecutive days, repeated 2-3 times per year. Some protocols use 5mg twice daily for 10 days. Your physician will determine the appropriate cycle length and frequency based on your health profile and goals.

Administration

Administered as a subcutaneous injection, typically in the abdominal area or thigh. The peptide is supplied as a lyophilized powder and reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before injection. Injection technique is simple and suitable for home self-administration after proper instruction.

Side Effects

  • Injection site irritation or redness
  • Headache
  • Mild nausea
  • Changes in sleep patterns (usually improved sleep quality)
  • Fatigue during initial days of a cycle

Contra-indications

  • Active cancer (telomerase activation could theoretically support tumor growth)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Known hypersensitivity to any component
  • Autoimmune conditions (use with physician supervision only)

Drug Interactions

  • Immunosuppressive medications - Epithalon may have immune-modulating effects
  • Melatonin supplements - may have additive effects on sleep and circadian rhythm

Storage Info

Store lyophilized powder at room temperature or refrigerated. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, store refrigerated at 36-46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C) and use within 21 days. Do not freeze. Protect from light.
